Nana Palkar Smruti Samiti was founded in 1968 to honor the legacy of Narayan Hari Palkar, affectionately known as Nana Palkar. Nana Palkar was a dedicated social worker, poet, and author, deeply compassionate toward society's underprivileged, sick, and downtrodden. His mission was to alleviate the pain and suffering of those in need, and he devoted his life to serving the poor and sick. The literary work of Nana Palkar includes the well-regarded Marathi book इस्राएल छळाकडून बळाकडे (From Persecution to Strength), among other poems and books
After his untimely death in March 1967, a group of like-minded individuals, including renowned medical professionals like Dr. Ajit Phadke, Dr. Madhavrao Paralkar, and Shri. Krishnaji Chhatre, among others, established Nana Palkar Smruti Samiti. They aimed to preserve Nana Palkar's mission and keep his spirit of service alive for future generations. The organization adopted the motto, Rugna Seva – Ishwar Seva(To Serve the Sick is to Serve God), which remains central to our mission.
The Samiti operates four state-of-the-art dialysis centers in Parel, Borivali, Santacruz, and Thane, where dialysis services are provided at highly subsidized rates. Additionally, in October 2022, a 16-bed chemotherapy center opened in Borivali with technical support from Tata Memorial Centre. This facility provides affordable cancer treatment and caters to patients from Tata Memorial Centre and the surrounding suburbs.
In addition, Samiti runs Out Patient Departments (OPD) with over 35 doctors offering services across Allopathy, Ayurveda, and Homeopathy in Borivali. Medical equipment is available for hire for patient home care, and twice monthly, date packets are distributed to tuberculosis patients at Sewri TB Hospital to aid in their nutrition. Recently, Nana Palkar Smruti Samiti began early breast cancer detection camps utilizing advanced thermal imaging technology, Tharmalityx, for early-stage diagnosis.
These initiatives underscore the Samiti’s commitment to providing accessible, compassionate healthcare while honoring Nana Palkar’s legacy of service to the underprivileged and sick.
