Narayan Hari Palkar alias Nana Palkar was a dedicated full time Social Worker. He was sensitive poet and author, he has penned various books and poems. One of his main famous book in marathi is ‘इस्राएल छळाकडून बळाकडे’ (Story of persecution to strength). He worked relentlessly, selflessly for the poor and downtrodden people of the society. He had great compassion for sick and needy people that he made it his life mission to alleviate their pain and misery till end.

After untimely sad demise of Nana Palkar in the month of March 1967, a small group of some dedicated people in Medical Profession, social workers etc, decided to establish a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in his Memory. Accordingly, at the initiative of well-known personalities in medical field like Dr. Ajit Phadke, Dr. Madhavrao Paralkar, Shri. Krishnaji Chhatre, Shri. Sharadrao Dandekar, Shri. Anantrao alias Mama Savarkar, Shri. Narayanrao Bhide and other social workers established an NGO by name Nana Palkar Smruti Samiti in the year 1968 with RUGNA SEVA – ISHWAR SEVA (TO SERVE THE SICK – TO SERVE THE GOD), as its motto and its main aim is to fulfill his mission and to last long his memory as a lighthouse for future generations.

Today, after 56 years of tireless efforts of hundreds of dedicated selfless workers the seedling of Nana Palkar Smruti Samiti has grown in to a big tree. The Samiti has its own 10 storied building at the heart of Mumbai i.e. Parel., where it provides free of cost accommodation and food at very nominal charges to the out of Mumbai patients, with two attendants, who come to Mumbai for treatment of serious ailments in the nearby Hospitals. Dates packets are distributed at Sewri T. B. Hospital to TB patients twice in a month. Currently, it has four well equipped State of the Art Dialysis Centres located at Parel, Borivali, Santacruz and Thane where Dialysis is being done at very nominal cost.

Currently, it has three well equipped State of the Art Dialysis Centres located Parel, Borivali, Santacruz in Mumbai where Dialysis is being done at very nominal cost. One more centre is being opened at Thane shortly.

In October 2022, 16 bedded well equipped State of the Art Chemotherapy Centre at Borivali became operational under technical Support of Tata Memorial Centre (TMC). It facilitates various cancer related treatments to the patients from TMC as well as patients from the Western and Eastern suburbs free of cost or at a very nominal cost. In addition to the above, it has its two Pathology Laboratories located at Parel & Borivali. Samiti runs Out Patients Department (OPD) in Borivali where more than 35 Doctors, experts in various medical streams like Allopathy, Ayurveda, Homeopathy provide their services to the patients at very nominal fees. Medical Equipments or Instruments useful to the patients are also provided at their residence on hire basis at Borivali and Thane center.

Recently, it has started organising camps at various locations for early detection of breast cancer, through a latest technology known as Tharmalityx, a novel software-based medical device to detect breast cancer at a much earlier stage than traditional methods or self-examination.

To become a major diversified, transnational integrated social/medical care services provider at national level in the field of patient care especially providing accommodation, food, medicines, various types of pathology tests at concessional rates, and ambulance service. Also, to provide financial help for medical treatment of economically backward patients, impart training to social workers to create awareness in the society to help poor/downtrodden people and to encourage philanthropy.

To achieve high level of standard of excellence in all types of activities of the Samiti like providing medical facilities, accommodation and food to the needy and downtrodden patients and their families by pooling all the available resources in the best possible manner.
